Content of Legal English Course on International Law
Module 1: Introduction to International Law and Basic Terminology
Explore the fundamental principles of international law and master the terminology in English.
Module 2: Public International Law and International Organizations--
In this module, you will learn essential vocabulary related to Public International Law and the functioning of major international organisations, such as the UN and the International Court of Justice. We will analyse terminology related to resolutions, treaties and advisory opinions in English, and how to interpret diplomatic language in multilateral documents.
Module 3: Human Rights
This module focuses on the legal terminology of international human rights law. You will study the language of key instruments such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the American Convention, and we will examine rulings in English on humanitarian law.
Module 4: International Criminal Law and Transnational Crimes
Here you will be introduced to the legal English used at the International Criminal Court and in the transnational criminal lawcases. We will work on specific vocabulary related to international crimes, jurisdiction, due process, and judicial cooperation, with a focus on how these concepts are expressed in legal texts in English.
Module 5: International Economic Law and Trade
In this module, we will explore the legal language of international trade, free trade agreements, and WTO rules. You will learn terminology related to international contracts, commercial arbitration, investments, and dispute resolution mechanisms, with real examples of clauses and documents.
Module 6: Environmental Law
This final module covers the legal and technical terminology of international environmental law. We will study the vocabulary used in agreements such as the Paris Agreement and the Rio Convention, and analyse specific vocabulary in English, focusing on sustainability and regulatory compliance.
