How can I obtain an apostille in Argentina?

Apostille is a certification provided under the 1961 Hague Convention that grants legitimacy and validity to official documents of a given country within a foreign country.

¿Cómo se tramita la apostilla en Argentina?

  • Remotely through the «Tramites a distancia» website.
  • In person, at the Notaries Public Association (Colegio de Escribanos) corresponding to each province.
  • If you are abroad, at the corresponding Argentine Consulates.

How do I start the procedure?

First of all, it is recommended to start the process on working days. The following steps must be followed:

1. Enter the following link of the «Tramites a distancia» website (TAD).

2. Access directly with Individual Taxpayer Identification Number/Workers Identification Number (CUIT/CUIL number) and fiscal password.

3. En la pantalla que sigue, verificar que los datos personales sean correctos y hacer clic en “Continuar”.

4. Then, it will be necessary to attach the document from the computer. The document must be attached in the corresponding field according to the type and format.

5. Una vez adjuntos, hacer clic en “Confirmar trámite”.

6. On the next screen, you will automatically enter the web page where you can choose the payment method:

  • Red Link.
  • Red Banelco, “Pago mis Cuentas”.

Once you have chosen the option, the payment receipt (VEP) is automatically generated and associated to your CUIL and the chosen payment network. The VEP is not downloaded or printed.

7. Enter home banking (Pay, if you operate with a Red Link bank; or Pago mis Cuentas, if you operate with a Red Banelco bank), and pay the VEP.

Important information: Once the VEP has been paid, you must wait at least 72 business hours until it is confirmed. Even if it is displayed as pending payment, says «cancelled» or stops being displayed, do not pay it again. We suggest you not to make multiple clicks at the time of payment, as this may generate multiple charges.

8. After 72 business hours and after payment has been confirmed, a file number is generated in the form EX-2021-XXXXXXXXXXXX- -APN-DTC#MRE. This process has an average resolution time of 30 working days. Then, you will be notified of the apostille that begins with the letters CE.

Who can carry out the procedure?

  • All those over 18 years of age and who have a CUIT and a fiscal password Level 2 (or higher), with a bank account in the country.
  • The procedure is not personal, therefore any person can initiate the procedure, even if he/she is not the holder of the document to be apostilled/legalized with international validity.

Which documents need an apostille?

Some of the documents that you can apostille or legalize are birth, marriage or death certificates; diplomas or transcripts; documents issued by Argentine Notary Publics; certified translations; among others.

In the event that these documents require translation, the apostille is usually done before translating. Then, it is translated and legalized at the Sworn Translators Association (either of the City of Buenos Aires or of the corresponding provinces). And in some cases, it is also recommended to apostille the certified translation.
